Doctor Strange 2 breaks presale record

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, tickets went on sale in most countries. Before the film even hit theaters, it's already breaking the first records.

Tickets for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finally went on sale this week. Just one day after tickets went on sale, the film has already broken the 2022 sales record held by the website Fandango.

Which is surprising, considering the average moviegoer had probably never heard of Stephen Strange's mystical alter ego before his first film in 2016. But now Strange is outselling the most popular superhero to ever hit the big screen. It also helps that the sequel follows Strange's appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which broke its own share of Fandango records when tickets went on sale last November.

"The epic first day of pre-sales for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness proves that fans are beyond excited to experience all the thrills, chills and blockbuster surprises that Marvel Studios is known for," Erik Davis, managing editor at Fandango, said in a new statement.

Many fans who bought tickets early are likely expecting the film's journey into the multiverse to hold plenty of surprises on the big screen. And after the surprise return of No Way Home, who could blame them? The latest trailer for Multiverse of Madness also featured the instantly recognizable voice of Patrick Stewart, leading to speculation that he will reprise his role as Professor X from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. And that would definitely be an interesting way to bring mutants into the MCU.

The latest news also bodes well for the film's box office. The original Doctor Strange grossed nearly $678 million worldwide. But if the advance ticket sales are any indication, the sequel seems primed to hit an even bigger total.
